Network Administrator

JOB DESCRIPTION

Snelling of Huntsville has a Client seeking an experienced and self-directed Network Administrator to join their growing team. This is a hands-on technical role responsible for administering, maintaining, and supporting the organization’s IT infrastructure—including servers, networks, user endpoints, and related systems. The position focuses on both proactive and responsive IT service delivery while maintaining a secure and reliable technological environment that supports their manufacturing operations.
This role reports directly to the CFO and works independently, alongside other IT personnel to ensure continuity and efficiency of our Client’s systems and services. While direct supervision of staff is not required, the successful candidate must collaborate effectively and provide occasional backup support across the team.

Key Responsibilities of the Network Administrator
  
Network & Systems Administration

  • Administer, configure, and maintain the organization’s Active Directory domain, including user accounts, group policies, folder permissions, and access rights.
  • Design, deploy, and support Windows Server environments, including installation, configuration, updates, and patch management.
  • Monitor and maintain network infrastructure including Cisco Meraki firewalls and switches; diagnose performance issues and implement improvements to ensure uptime and availability.
  • Manage VMware/vSphere virtual environments, performing provisioning, maintenance, backup, and disaster recovery operations.

  
Security & Compliance

  • Monitor network and system activity for anomalies and respond immediately to security or usability concerns.
  • Administer and support Symantec Endpoint Protection and other cybersecurity tools.
  • Maintain awareness of and support for CMMC (Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification) requirements. Depending on experience, the role may involve preparing for internal certification or coordinating with third-party compliance providers.
  • Audit user and system permissions regularly to ensure compliance and minimize security risk.

Email, Backup & Cloud Services

  • Administer the organization’s Microsoft Exchange email system and Microsoft Office 365 platform, including configuration, licensing, and user support.
  • Perform regular backups using Veeam software, ensuring secure and reliable data protection across Windows servers and designated workstations.
  • Support and maintain SharePoint environment and collaborative tools.

User Support & Endpoint Management

  • Provide Tier 2/3 desktop support for end users, addressing hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  • Image and configure Windows 10/11 desktops and laptops for new users; maintain hardware/software lifecycle and ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Respond to after-hours help desk requests as needed, ensuring availability and continuity of operations during critical incidents.
  • Install and maintain computing hardware and peripheral devices as needed.

Project & Vendor Coordination

  • Contribute to IT projects from initial solution design through vendor selection, implementation, acceptance testing, and ongoing support.
  • Manage IT fixed assets, including procurement, inventory, and lifecycle tracking.
  • Serve as the point of contact with external IT service providers and vendors to ensure prompt and professional service delivery.

Additional Technology Areas

  • Support and maintain physical security systems, including CCTV surveillance, access control systems, and alarms.
  • Provide input on improvements to infrastructure architecture, documentation, and automation opportunities.

  
  
Qualifications of the Network Administrator

Required

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field; equivalent work experience and relevant certifications will also be considered.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a similar IT systems/network role, ideally in a manufacturing or machining environment.
  • Strong technical proficiency with:
    • Microsoft Server (2016/2019/2022)
    • Microsoft Windows 10/11
    • Active Directory
    • VMware/vSphere
    • Veeam
    • Microsoft Office 365
    • Meraki network devices
  • Experience with system patching and backups in an enterprise environment.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint, computer imaging, and endpoint protection platforms.
  • Effective problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  
Preferred

  • Exposure to CMMC frameworks and compliance processes.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), or VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
  • Experience supporting CCTV, alarm, and access control systems.
