Medical Assistant

JOB DESCRIPTION

Snelling of Huntsville has a Huntsville ENT client looking for a Medical Assistant to join their clinic’s care team. Their practice is a modern, patient-centered office where they prioritize compassionate care and an excellent patient experience. This is a direct hire opportunity. Hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, with one hour for lunch.

Pay rate range is $20-21.50/hour.
  

Responsibilities of the Medical Assistant:

  • Patient Preparation: Room patients and prepare them for examinations – take and record vital signs, update medical histories and medication lists, and ensure all necessary forms or consents are completed in the EHR.
  • Assisting Physicians: Assist ENT physician during exams and minor in-office procedures (such as nasal endoscopies, ear cleanings/irrigations, biopsies, etc.), providing instruments and patient support as needed.
  • Clinical Procedures: Perform basic clinical tasks as directed by providers – this may include administering approved medications or injections, ear irrigations, or basic audiology screenings (as trained and allowed by clinic protocol).
  • Patient Education: Provide patients with instructions and education on treatments or at-home care (for example, explaining how to use nasal sprays, perform sinus rinse, or care for a procedure site) in a clear and compassionate manner.
  • Administrative Support: Coordinate patient flow and follow-up – schedule follow-up appointments or surgeries, prepare referral paperwork, and call patients with test results or instructions as directed by the physician.
  • Equipment & Rooms: Clean and sterilize medical instruments (including ENT endoscopes) according to OSHA and clinic standards; keep exam rooms well-stocked and organized with necessary supplies for efficient care.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, nurses, and front office staff to ensure the clinic runs smoothly – assist colleagues during busy periods, and contribute to a positive, team-oriented atmosphere focused on outstanding patient care.

  
Qualifications of the Medical Assistant:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred (associate degree in a related field is a plus).
  • Certification: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential preferred. We will also consider Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) with clinical experience for this role. Current CPR/BLS certification required (or must obtain shortly after hire).
  • Experience: 1+ year of experience in a clinical setting (physician’s office or outpatient clinic) preferred. Experience in an ENT or specialty practice is a huge plus. Strong entry-level candidates (such as new MA graduates with excellent externship performance and skills) will be considered and trained
  • Clinical Skills: Proficient in taking vital signs, drawing blood and performing basic lab tests (phlebotomy skills a plus), administering injections or medications as directed, and assisting with minor procedures. Familiarity with common ENT conditions and terminology is helpful.
  • Technical Skills: Comfortable with electronic health records and medical documentation – experience entering patient notes and navigating EHR systems is preferred. Basic inventory management skills to track and restock medical supplies.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – able to reassure patients and explain instructions clearly. Compassionate and patient-centered attitude with adults and children alike.
  • Organization: Strong multitasking and organizational abilities to handle a fast-paced clinic schedule. Must be detail-oriented in documenting information and following physician instructions accurately.
  • Team Player: Cooperative, positive attitude and ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team. We value reliability, flexibility, and a willingness to learn new skills or ENT-specific procedures as needed.
  • Work Ethic: Dependable and punctual, with a strong sense of responsibility and the judgment to know when to seek guidance in patient care situations. Must maintain patient confidentiality and follow all clinical safety protocols.
